The CIOT is a Service Contract, which includes all the members of the transport operation, all logistics rules, such as origin, destination, vehicles, routes and cargoes to be shipped, and the conditions of payment of freight amounts and date. The CIOT is required to issue a contract for a Transport Operation between a Contracting Company, carrier or Logistic Operator and a third carrier.
This numerical code obtained through the registration of the transport operation in the electronic system of ANTT has as main objective to regulate the payment of the value of the freight related to the provision of the services of road transportation of loads and its use is obligatory. The numbering is unique for each freight contract and must be included in the Contract or Knowledge of Road Transport of Loads – CTRC, CT-e.
The regulation of the payment of the freight brought much more security for all those involved in hiring the transport service. For the freight forwarder, it guarantees the full, timely and regulated payment of freight. For the contractor or subcontractor of the transport service, it guarantees greater control over payments made, counting on the guarantees guaranteed by law. For this purpose, the Electronic Freight Payment (PEF) process was developed, replacing the old Freight Charter process, which was commonly changed in the agencies and fuel depots.
With the PEF, all payment rules are registered in CIOT, which must also contain the registration of the payment method. Therefore, only companies approved by ANTT can carry out the process of issuing this document. The administrators of electronic payment means of freight are institutions authorized by ANTT for the payment of freights to contractors. It is through them that the contractor of the transport service issues the CIOT, presenting the obligatory information regarding the contract agreed between contractor and contractor.
